UIC vs Illinois State: Help me decide!

I'm a high school junior and have narrowed down my choices for college between UIC and Illinois State. Can anyone share their perspectives on academics, campus life, and job prospects for both schools to help me make a decision? Thanks!

Academics:

- UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) is a research institution with strong programs, particularly in health and sciences (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, and public health). It also offers strong engineering and business programs.

- Illinois State (ISU) is known for its strong education, business, and fine arts programs. It also has solid offerings in psychology, agriculture, and social work.

Campus life:

- UIC is located in Chicago, a major metropolitan area with numerous cultural, social, and professional opportunities. Campus life at UIC benefits from the amenities and diversity of the city, but it can be a bit more commuter-based. Living costs can be higher than in a more suburban or rural area.

- Illinois State is located in Normal, a more suburban, college-town setting which offers a traditional campus experience. It has more of a residential focus and tightly knit community, but with fewer urban amenities than Chicago.

Job prospects:

- Attending UIC, which is located in a thriving business and cultural hub, may mean more opportunities for internships and future employment. Being exposed to numerous employers and industries while in undergrad often gives you access to a broader job market after graduation.

- At Illinois State, you can still gain valuable internship and job opportunities, particularly within the local region, but the scope might be limited compared to metropolitan areas, so you might have to take more initiative in seeking out opportunities. However, the university has well-established connections with local businesses and schools, which lead to strong local job prospects in specific areas like teaching.

Both schools have their unique strengths, so the ideal choice depends on your priorities and preferences. If you're looking for a bustling urban setting with a wide range of opportunities, UIC might be the better choice. On the other hand, if you prefer a traditional campus experience with a focus on education or other specific programs, Illinois State could be the more suitable option.

Consider visiting both campuses (if possible) and talking to current students to get a more personalized feel for each institution. Furthermore, research the programs in your field of interest at each school and evaluate their alignment with your career goals. Good luck!
