What's it like living on campus at George Mason University?

Hey everyone, I'm considering applying to George Mason University, and I wanted to know more about their room and board options. Can any current or past students share their experiences and maybe some insight into the cost?

Hello! Although I am not former student, I'd like to share some thoughts on living on campus at George Mason University. Overall, the on-campus housing provides a great experience for students, as it helps you build connections with your peers and immerse yourself in campus life.

There are several housing options, which include traditional residence halls, suite-style residence halls, and apartment-style living. The traditional halls usually have shared rooms, with communal bathrooms on each floor. Suite-style halls often have 4-5 residents share two rooms and one bathroom. Apartment-style living is more independent, with private bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and shared bathrooms. The cost varies based on the selected housing option and the annual rates can be found on the George Mason University housing website.

The quality of the residence halls varies depending on their age, but generally, they're well-maintained. As with any college, there can be occasional congestion in shared spaces like bathrooms and laundry rooms. On-campus living can be on the higher end in terms of cost, especially if you choose one of the more modern or apartment-style options, but it's important to balance factors like convenience, social opportunities, and overall experience when deciding. Many students also opt to live in surrounding off-campus apartments or houses to save money on housing.

Exploring cost-saving measures such as having roommates, utilizing a lower-tier meal plan, or living in traditional residence halls may help make on-campus living more affordable. Additionally, make sure to fill out the FAFSA to see if you qualify for any financial aid to cover housing costs.

As for the overall atmosphere, George Mason University has a vibrant campus life, with plenty of clubs, organizations, and events to get involved in. Living on campus makes it easier to form lasting friendships and fully experience everything the university has to offer. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision about living on campus at GMU! Good luck!
