Can you apply early action and early decision at the same time?

Hey all, I'm a bit confused about the application process. Can I apply to some colleges through early action and others through early decision simultaneously? Are there any restrictions to this? Thanks for the help!

Hi there! I understand that the application process can be quite confusing. To answer your question, yes, you can apply to some colleges through early action (EA) and another through early decision (ED) simultaneously. However, there are some restrictions to consider.

If you apply ED, you're making a binding commitment to attend that college if accepted. Therefore, it's crucial to be absolutely sure that the ED school is your top choice. If accepted, you'll have to withdraw any EA applications you've submitted to other schools.

On the other hand, EA is non-binding, which allows you more flexibility. If you get accepted to an EA school, you can still wait until the regular decision deadline to make your final decision.

Many students who apply to their top school ED will still send out EA applications to hear about other schools before the Regular Decision deadline around April. However, if they are accepted to one college ED, they won't get to accept EA offers that might come around the same time.

Just make sure to review the specific policies of each college you're applying to, as some might have certain restrictions. Best of luck with your applications!
