What is the meaning of 'Early Decision 2'?

I'm working on finalizing my college list and I keep seeing 'Early Decision 2' as an option on some of the applications. What exactly does this mean, and how does it differ from regular early decision? I'm a bit confused and any clarification would be amazing. Thanks everyone!

Hey! No worries, 'Early Decision 2' (ED2) can be a bit confusing at first. It is fairly similar to the regular Early Decision (ED1), but it offers applicants a second chance to apply early to their preferred college. The main difference is the timeline. ED2 typically has a deadline in January, while ED1 deadlines are usually in November.

Like with ED1, ED2 is a binding commitment. If you're accepted, you are required to attend that college and withdraw your applications from other schools. ED2 can be a great option if you have a strong desire to attend a specific school, but you either missed the ED1 deadline or feel that your application will be stronger with a bit more time.

One more thing to keep in mind: the earlier you apply, the better your chances of being accepted may be. So if a school is your first choice and you're ready, don't hesitate to apply during the ED1 round. That being said, it's important to weigh your options and make the decision that is best for you. Best of luck!
