How valuable are college fairs?

Our school organizes college fairs every year, but I'm unsure whether attending them is truly worth it. Can I genuinely get key information that could help me select a good college, or is it more suitable for generic information I can easily research online? Would love to hear about your experiences and advice!

I remember when my child was in high school, we attended college fairs together and found them quite helpful. At these events, you can learn about a wide range of universities, gather brochures, get answers to specific questions, and even make personal connections with representatives that could be helpful down the line.

However, you're right that some generic information can also be found online. But college fairs offer the advantage of interacting with real people who are knowledgeable about the schools and can provide more personalized advice. They can also give you a feel for the university's community and values. For example, my son had the chance to speak with a rep from his current college and he felt an instant connection with their educational philosophy and offerings.

Ultimately, I'd say it's worth attending at least one or two fairs to gather information and make personal connections that could benefit you during the application process. Good luck!
