# How to Calculate Your Aggie GPA

I'm considering applying to Texas A&M and I want to make sure I understand how my GPA will be calculated according to their system. Has anyone used the Aggie Grade Calculator before? How does it work and is it accurate?

The Aggie GPA, used by Texas A&M University, is based on a 4.0 scale and considers only your core academic coursework. Although there's no official Aggie Grade Calculator, you can manually calculate your Aggie GPA with a few simple steps. While I can't vouch for any unofficial calculators, you can use the following steps to determine your Aggie GPA accurately:

1. Identify your core academic courses: Focus on courses in the areas of English, Math, Science, Social Science, and Foreign Language. Texas A&M does not factor in elective classes, PE, or fine arts in their GPA calculation.

2. Assign numerical values to your letter grades: For Texas A&M, the values are A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F=0. If your school offers weighted classes, you can use the following values: A=5 (Honors/AP/IB), B=4 (Honors/AP/IB), C=3 (Honors/AP/IB). Keep in mind each high school may have slightly different rules for weighted classes, so verify with your school counselor for exact weighting rules.

3. Multiply the numerical value for each class by the number of class credits (usually 1 credit per year-long course): For example, if you received an A in an honors English course, you would multiply 5 (A in honors) by the course credits (usually 1) to get 5.

4. Add up the total credit points: Sum the credit points for all your core academic courses.

5. Add up the total number of core academic course credits: Count the combined credits of these core academic courses.

6. Divide the total credit points by the total number of core academic course credits to determine your Aggie GPA: For example, if you have 120 credit points and 30 core academic course credits, your Aggie GPA would be 120/30 = 4.0.

Keep in mind that these steps are a general guide to calculating your Aggie GPA. For the most accurate GPA calculation, talk to your high school counselor or check Texas A&M's official admissions website for additional guidance on how your specific courses will be considered.
