Can I apply for both Early Decision and Early Action?

Hi all! I'm currently a junior, and I'm starting to plan my college applications. My dream school offers an Early Decision plan, but there are also a few other schools I would like to apply to with Early Action. Is it possible to apply for both ED and EA at different schools? What are the rules regarding these application plans? Thanks in advance!

Hello! It's great that you're planning ahead for college applications. Generally, whether you can apply to both Early Decision (ED) and Early Action (EA) at different schools is dependent on the specific schools' policies.

Remember ED is a binding agreement, which means if you're accepted to your dream school through ED, you are required to attend that school and withdraw all other applications. EA, on the other hand, is non-binding and allows you to apply to multiple schools without any commitment.

In terms of specific policies, some schools may restrict you from applying to other private schools ED or EA but allow you to apply to other public schools or schools with rolling admissions early. Always verify the specific policies of the schools you're looking at to avoid any potential problems.

For example, my child applied Early Decision to their dream school and Early Action to a few others. Once they were accepted via ED, they withdrew their EA applications as required. Make sure to weigh the pros and cons of each application plan and be aware of the responsibilities that come with an ED acceptance. Good luck with your college applications!
