Photography Colleges in North Carolina?

Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior and looking at colleges with strong photography programs. I'm particularly interested in schools in North Carolina. Does anyone have recommendations for the best photography colleges in NC? And if you have any personal experiences, please share! Thanks so much!

Hi! It's great to see that you're interested in studying photography in North Carolina. There are several schools in the state with excellent photography programs. Here are a few options to consider:

1. University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA): UNCA offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art with a Concentration in Photography. The program emphasizes a wide range of photography disciplines, including digital, film, and alternative processes.

2. Appalachian State University (Boone): Their BFA program in Studio Art offers a Photography concentration. The curriculum offers a mix of technical instruction, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving, which will help you build a strong foundation in photography.

3. East Carolina University (Greenville): ECU has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with a Concentration in Photography. Their program focuses on traditional and digital photographic processes while encouraging interdisciplinary exploration.

4. University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG): Their BFA program in Art offers a Photography concentration, with courses in areas like digital photography, color photography, and time-based media.

5. Western Carolina University (Cullowhee): Their BFA in Art offers a Photography and Intermedia concentration, which combines photography with other digital media, like video and graphic design.

6. Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem): Although not purely a photography program, Wake Forest University offers a BA degree in Studio Art, and within this, you can take several photography courses and focus your studies on photography.

As you explore these programs, I recommend visiting the schools' websites, checking out their curricula, and looking at faculty members' portfolios. Additionally, try to visit the campuses or attend virtual events to get a sense of each school's environment and resources. Make sure the program aligns well with your interests and long-term goals. Best of luck with your college search!
