Electrical Engineering Colleges in New York: Recommendations?

I'm a junior looking to major in Electrical Engineering and want to stay in New York. Does anyone have any recommendations for colleges within the state with strong Electrical Engineering programs? Specifically interested in learning about the community, internship opportunities, professors, and overall experience. Thank you!

New York has several great options for Electrical Engineering.

Starting off with the key players, you have Columbia University and Cornell University. Both have top-tier engineering programs with renowned faculty. These schools also have extensive industry connections, so internships and job opportunities are plentiful. The community at these schools is typically passionate and competitive but supportive, and there's a wide array of clubs and activities related to engineering. However, they're both Ivy League universities and very selective, so keep that in mind.

New York University (NYU) also has a prestigious engineering school named the Tandon School of Engineering. Apart from being in one of the most dynamic cities in the world, NYU engineering students usually enjoy a close-knit community, supportive faculty, and a wealth of resources. Internship opportunities in NYU are amazing given its location in the heart of NYC and its strong connections with many companies.

Moving on to public schools, the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo has a well-regarded engineering program and offers a range of senior design projects that play to the practical side of engineering. The engineering community there is active with many different engineering clubs and organizations. Being a major state school, they also have partnerships with local and national engineering companies, providing ample internship and co-op opportunities.

Another option if you're looking at state schools is the City College of New York (CCNY), which has a traditionally strong focus on engineering. It's located in the Manhattan area, so you're in the mix for opportunities in the city. Students often talk about the hands-on experience they get in the engineering labs and opportunities for research even at an undergraduate level.

Remember that wherever you choose to study, make sure to visit the campus (if you can), reach out to current students or alumni, and really research what resources are available to you, as that can make or break your college experience. Each school has its unique culture and opportunities, so you should find one that aligns with your goals and preferences. I hope you find this information helpful, and good luck with your college search!
