does early decision help your chances

Hey everyone, I've been doing some research on early decision and I was wondering if applying early actually helps increase the likelihood of getting into a college or if it's just a myth? I'm a junior and trying to plan my college applications, any insight would be great. Thanks!

Hi there! I can understand your curiosity about early decision and the possible impact on your chances of getting into college. In general, applying for early decision can indeed help improve your chances of admission, especially at highly competitive schools. This is because colleges like to secure strong candidates early on, and the applicant pool for early decision is usually smaller than regular decision.

However, it's important to remember that early decision is a binding commitment. If you're accepted under early decision, you're expected to attend that college and withdraw any other applications. So, only apply for early decision if you're absolutely sure that's the school you want to attend. My child applied early decision to their top-choice school and was accepted, which made the remainder of the application process much less stressful. But, make sure you weigh all the pros and cons before making your choice. Good luck in planning your college applications!
