What colleges don't look at freshman year grades?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior who's a little worried about my freshman year grades not being the best. Are there colleges that don't take these grades into account during the admissions process? I would hate for these early mistakes to hurt my chances.

Hi there! It's understandable that you might be concerned about how your freshman year grades could impact your college admissions. The good news is that many colleges tend to focus on your overall academic improvement throughout high school rather than just the grades you earned early on.

Some colleges even have a specific policy in place that doesn't count freshman year grades as part of your GPA calculation. The University of California system, for instance, doesn't include freshman year grades in its GPA calculations. So, if you've demonstrated growth and improvement over the last few years, rest assured that colleges will likely recognize this.

Additionally, make sure you highlight your strengths in other aspects of your application, such as extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. Demonstrating your dedication to growth and improvement in and out of the classroom will help your application shine. Good luck!
