The University of California, San Diego (UCSD), at its Scripps Institution of Oceanography, has a well-regarded marine biology undergraduate major. This program features a variety of marine-focused courses, extensive hands-on research opportunities, and field work in various aquatic environments.

Another notable program is at the University of Southern California (USC). The Marine and Environmental Biology major at USC offers excellent experiential learning opportunities, including field studies and internships.

Stanford University also has a marine biology track within its Biology major. The Hopkins Marine Station, Stanford's marine biology research facility, provides unique hands-on research and fieldwork opportunities.

As for the major itself, Marine Biology is a specialized field that is fascinating but also challenging. It requires a firm understanding of general biology as well as specific marine science knowledge. Many students have mentioned the benefit of hands-on learning experiences, internships, and field studies in gaining a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Career opportunities can be somewhat limited and competitive though, mostly being centered around research, academia, conservation, and government roles. Therefore, it is often recommended to consider graduate studies to further enhance career prospects in this field.

Remember that when choosing a program, you should not only consider the reputation of the institution and the program, but also factors like the learning facilities, opportunities for hands-on experiences, internships, and study abroad opportunities. The best-fit program for you highly depends on your specific interests and career goals within Marine Biology.
