RIT for Mechanical Engineering Technology?

So I was looking into the Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Rochester Institute of Technology. Anyone currently enrolled or can share their experiences? I want to know about the difficulty level, internship opportunities, and overall impressions.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is known for its strong emphasis on experiential learning, which certainly applies to their programs in the College of Engineering Technology, where the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program lies.

Over the course of your studies, you'll be involved in several hands-on projects that allow you to apply theory to real-life applications. Many students mention that they appreciate this emphasis on practical application, as it provides a solid grasp of the inner workings of systems and machinery and is beneficial when transitioning to a job.

In terms of curriculum difficulty, this might vastly differ between students, depending on their background and affinity for certain subjects within the curriculum. Generally, you'll find that the rigorous program demands an investment of substantial time and effort, but professors are said to be supportive and ready to assist students who might be struggling with course materials.

As for internship opportunities, you're in luck. RIT requires students to complete cooperative education experiences, i.e., paid internships, for them to graduate. These co-op experiences are an integral part of the MET program and provide excellent opportunities for students to gain industry experience before graduating.

Students also have access to the Office of Career Services and Cooperative Education, which provides assistance when it comes to landing these experiences - from resume reviews to mock interviews. While it's up to you to secure your own co-op, the resources are there to help you succeed.

Striving for excellence in student-driven research and innovation is a proud tradition at RIT, so you'll get plenty of opportunities to work on meaningful projects. The campus houses several research centers dedicated to topics related to engineering technology, which can be a great resource.

Overall, current students and alumni of the MET program at RIT generally speak highly of their time there, appreciating the mix of theory and practical experience the program offers. You should also get comfortable with the idea of frigid winters in Rochester if considering RIT!
