Hey Reddit! I'm currently a junior passionate about food science. I'm starting to think about colleges, can anyone recommend the top food science colleges that I should be looking at? Any advice would be super helpful.

Sure, happy to help! When it comes to programs in Food Science, there are several institutions renowned for their strong departments. Keep in mind that while many universities have a food science major, urban universities might have alternative programs like nutrition or dietetics due to space restrictions for food labs.

One of the top-notch universities is Cornell University, which is known for its solid Food Science program. Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' Department of Food Science is one of the comprehensive programs you'll find, often ranked high nationally.

The University of California, Davis is another excellent choice. Their programs involve various sub-disciplines, such as food chemistry, food microbiology, and sensory and consumer science, providing a broad base insight into the field.

Pennsylvania State University has their Department of Food Science that provides undergraduate students with a well-rounded and practical understanding of food science and its related industries.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition is robust. This program includes extensive laboratory work, providing students ample opportunities to get hands-on experience, which is invaluable in this field.

Last but not least, University of Wisconsin-Madison also has a strong Food Science program that might be worth considering.

Remember to explore each college's curriculum, opportunities for internships, research options, and the availability of courses that align with your interest within food science.

I hope this gives you a good place to start! Best of luck in your college search.
