How's the Computer Science program at Youngstown State University?

Hi everybody! I am planning on pursuing computer science and one of the universities that caught my eye is Youngstown State University. Does anyone know about the strength of their Computer Science program, or has anyone had any experiences or heard anything about it?

Youngstown State University does have a Computer Science program within its College of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). It offers both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in the field. Students pursuing a Bachelor's degree have two options: the Computer Science track or the Information Systems track.

The Computer Science track provides students with a strong background in programming, algorithms, computer architecture, and operating systems. On the Information Systems track, students focus more on applying computing to business problems - so you see more courses on databases, web development, and project management.

The curriculum for the Bachelor's degree requires 120 total semester hours and covers a range of subject areas including data structures, introduction to operating systems, programming languages, and algorithms. They also guide students to complete an Internship, which is a great way to get practical experience in the field.

One great feature of Youngstown State's Computer Science department is its "STEM Professional Services" office which assists students with finding internships and jobs in their field. This can be a valuable resource for breaking into the tech industry.

While Youngstown State's Computer Science program may not be as widely recognized as those at some larger universities, it provides a solid foundational education in the field. Keep in mind what matters most in CS is often your own ability to problem-solve, code, and possibly maintain a portfolio of projects.

Remember to consider fit as well - the campus culture, location, cost, and other factors can heavily influence your college experience. It would be beneficial to reach out to professors or current students at Youngstown State, or possibly visit the campus, to get a feel for whether it would be a good fit for you.
