Why is Hawaii Pacific University's graduation rate so low?

Hey guys, can anyone shed some light on why Hawaii Pacific University's graduation rate is so low? I'm considering HPU as an option but this fact is a bit concerning. Do you think it's because of the academic rigour, or might there be other influencing factors? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Looking into the graduation rate of a prospective university is indeed a good idea as it provides a sense of the quality of education and support the school offers. Regarding Hawaii Pacific University (HPU), a few factors might contribute to its relatively low graduation rate.

One primary factor might be the student population's demographic makeup. HPU, as I understand it, has a larger proportion of part-time and international students, who are typically not counted in the graduation rate statistics. Non-traditional and part-time students often take extended periods to graduate due to work constraints, family responsibilities, or as international students, from visa or language challenges. In other words, their longer graduation times could be affecting the university's overall rate.

Secondly, as a point of note, a lower graduation rate doesn't always signify fewer academic supports or a harsher academic climate. It may reflect that the institution caters to students with a variety of needs and circumstances, especially if it admits a high number of first-generation college students.

Lastly, the geographical location of HPU might be a factor. The appeal of studying in Hawaii can draw many students initially, but moving and living far away from home in a very different climate and environment might lead some students to struggle with adjustment to the culture and overall lifestyle changes, which could impact their academic success too.

That said, while graduation rates can be a useful data point, it's important to look at the whole picture when evaluating a college. I would encourage you to consider other factors such as academic programs, student support services, class sizes, and internship opportunities as part of your decision-making process.
