Ins and Outs of Ole Miss Financial aid?

Hello! I'm likely going to Ole Miss next year and money is a bit tight. How generous is their financial aid? Are there any hidden processes or specifics I should know about?

Ole Miss, otherwise known as the University of Mississippi, offers both need-based and merit-based financial aid to help students pay for their education.

One key aspect of getting financial aid is to complete the FAFSA. This form helps the university determine your financial need and the amount of federal aid you are entitled to. Ole Miss uses the information you submit on the FAFSA to help them award their own need-based aid, so make sure it has accurate information!

Since you're worried about costs, you should definitely take a look at the school’s merit-based scholarships. The University of Mississippi has various automatic scholarships that they offer to incoming freshmen based on their academic profile. Make sure to check their website for the most recent GPA and score requirements, and the corresponding scholarship amounts.

Ole Miss also offers competitive scholarships that require a separate application. These scholarships take into consideration your leadership experience, service, talent, or achievement in a specific area, along with academics. If you think you might qualify for one of these, I recommend looking into it and applying early; many of these scholarships have earlier deadlines and get quite competitive.

If you are a resident of Mississippi, the Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) and the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG) are also opportunities for you to get additional aid.

Lastly, Ole Miss has the Luckyday Success Scholarship Program, which is targeted towards Mississippi residents who show exceptional leadership abilities and are committed to community service.

The university's Office of Financial Aid is an excellent resource for any questions you might have and they can guide you through the entire process. Make sure to utilize them and stay on top of all application and document submission deadlines.

Good luck with your financial aid process!
