Listing extracurriculars: Help needed!

I'm getting my application ready, but I'm not sure what counts as an extracurricular activity. Could you guys provide a few examples to help me out?

Absolutely, I would be glad to provide some guidance! Extracurricular activities cover a fairly broad spectrum. Here's a basic way to think about it: if it's meaningful to you, takes up a significant amount of your time outside of class, and it's not something you're required to do for school, it probably qualifies as an extracurricular activity.

1. Clubs or Organizations: This could be anything from being a member of the debate team, partaking in Model United Nations, FBLA, or being part of the school newspaper or yearbook committee.

2. Sports: Whether it's a school team, a club at school, or an external team, any athletic involvement counts. This includes being a player, a team captain, or even a manager for the team.

3. Arts: Involvement in dance troupes, choir, band, drama/theatre, or visual arts groups count - especially those that participate and compete in local, state, or national competitions.

4. Volunteer Work: Helping out at a local animal shelter? Volunteering as a tutor? These types of activities definitely count.

5. Work: Yes, even part-time jobs count as an extracurricular activity. So whether you've been flipping burgers, babysitting or working at a local shop, it can all be relevant.

6. Personal Projects or Initiatives: Started your own small business online? Developed a useful mobile app? Organized a community event? All of these can be considered valuable extracurricular activities.

7. Leadership Roles: Held important roles like class representative, school prefect, club president? Leadership roles showcase your ability to manage teams and projects, giving admissions officers insight into your teamwork, organizational, and leadership skills.

Remember, it's not necessarily about the quantity, but rather about the quality of your involvement. Admissions officers appreciate seeing a high level of commitment and achievement in a few select activities which you are truly passionate about.
