Taking driver's ed during freshman year?

Hello everyone, I am going to start high school soon, and I'm curious about when to take driver's ed. Would taking it during my freshman year be a good idea or should I wait for a later year? I don't want it to interfere with my academics or extracurriculars.

Hello there! It's absolutely thoughtful of you to consider how driver's ed might fit into your high school schedule. Generally, freshman year can be an opportune time to take on driver's education because your academic load and extracurricular commitments might not be as heavy as they will be in later years.

However, it really depends on how confident you feel with your transition into high school. Some students find it helpful to get accustomed to the new environment and academic expectations before adding extra commitments. If you have room in your schedule and feel that you can manage the coursework, freshman year could be the right time for you. Just keep in mind that the coursework for driver's ed does require time and attention for studying and hands-on driving practice.

In some places, driver’s education may be offered during the summer. If you think your school year might be too busy, you could consider taking it over the summer instead, which will alleviate any potential conflicts with school or extracurricular activities. Always remember that your academics should be your priority, so weigh your options and choose what feels most manageable for you.
