What kind of SAT scores does A&M university typically look for?

Hey guys, hope everyone's doing well. I've been researching A&M University a bit lately, and it seems like my kind of place. I was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of SAT scores they typically look for in their applicants? Would really appreciate if anyone could help me out with this info!

Texas A&M University (assuming you're referring to Texas A&M and not another A&M school) publishes information about the academic profile of their admitted students, which includes SAT scores. For the middle 50% of admitted students, the combined SAT score (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math) usually ranges from approximately 1170 to 1380.

You do not absolutely have to be within or above this range to be admitted, but it does give you a solid general target. Do remember that admission to Texas A&M University is not determined solely based on SAT scores; they also consider high school coursework and grades, as well as your essays, leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, and work experience. It's beneficial to have a strong SAT score, but equally important to focus on the other parts of your application.

If you want to know how your application as a whole stacks up at Texas A&M, I'd check out CollegeVine's free chancing engine, which accounts for all quantifiable elements of your application, including not just test scores but also GPA, course rigor, and extracurriculars to give you personalized odds of acceptance at Texas A&M and hundreds of other colleges: https://www.collegevine.com/admissions-calculator

This tool will also give you suggestions on how to improve your chances, whether by raising your SAT score slightly or some other step, like earning a leadership position in one of your extracurriculars.

Or, if you want tips on how to strengthen the more intangible aspects of your application, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle Texas A&M's application essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-texas-am-university-essays/. The essays can be a great way of showing what you have to offer beyond the numbers.

To summarize, being above 1380 is definitely a good starting point, but make sure to still invest energy into these other areas of your application, as a strong SAT score alone won't guarantee acceptance. On the flip side, if you're below 1170, don't panic - just focus on showcasing your strengths in these other areas.

Finally, it's worth noting that Texas A&M is officially test-optional, so you actually are not required to submit an SAT (or ACT) score. However, you're smart to still be thinking about target SAT scores, as there can still be instances where including a standardized test score with your application can be a good idea. Good luck!
