Should I take Calculus AB or BC?

Hey everyone, quick question for ya. I'm scheduling my classes for next year and don't know whether to take Calculus AB or Calculus BC. I'm kind of good at math, it's not really my thing but I can handle it. Can you tell me the real differences between these two and which one might be more beneficial for someone hoping to study business in college?

The real differences between AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC lie primarily in the breadth and depth of content covered. AP Calculus AB is designed to cover the material of a single semester of college calculus, with topics such as limits, differentiation, and basic integration. On the other hand, AP Calculus BC covers the same topics as AB along with additional topics like more advanced integration techniques, sequences and series, and polar and parametric equations.

Given that you're hoping to study business in college, a solid grounding in calculus can certainly be beneficial, though which course is the best fit will largely depend on your comfort and proficiency with mathematical concepts. Businesses courses often include components of finance, economics, and management science, all of which may involve concepts from calculus.

Calculus AB offers a manageable introduction to calculus concepts. It is a good course to take if you've had limited exposure to calculus concepts previously but still want to demonstrate your readiness to tackle college-level math courses.

Calculus BC, on the other hand, is typically for students with a strong foundation in precalculus and trigonometry and who are comfortable with mathematical abstraction. If you have a strong interest in math and you're considering a highly quantitative field of business like finance or operations research, BC might be a better fit.

I would recommend reviewing the syllabus for both AP courses and discussing with your math teacher about your readiness for each course. And remember, staying motivated and willing to put in effort to understand the concepts is just as crucial as your pre-existing math skills. Good luck with the decision!
