Is a 1310 SAT Score Competitive in College Applications?

Hey everyone! I just got my SAT scores back and I scored 1310. While I know it's not a bad score, I'm wondering if it's good enough for selective colleges. What range of schools should I be looking at? Feeling a little stressed about this whole process. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I can understand your stress in the college application process, but fret not, you're not alone in this journey.

Your 1310 SAT score is certainly respectable and competitive for a good number of colleges. To guide your college search, you might want to compare your SAT score with the middle 50% SAT scores of admitted students at the colleges you're interested in. This will give you a rough idea of how your score stacks up.

Just as an example, an SAT score of 1310 is comfortably within the middle 50% SAT Scores of some selective schools like University of Vermont (1190-1390), Ohio State University (1240-1440), and Penn State University (1160-1360).

However, if you're aiming for super selective schools (like Ivy leagues), your 1310 is likely below their middle 50% range. For instance, the lowest 25% at Harvard and Stanford generally have SAT scores above 1400.

Remember though, your SAT score is just a piece of your application. Admissions committees also seriously consider factors like course rigor, GPA, your essays, recommendation letters, and extracurricular activities. Colleges want to see well-rounded applications that show a deep involvement in a few key areas, so start enhancing other areas of your application. You can look at how your activities stack up against The 4 Tiers of Extracurriculars as a reference point.

Lastly, never hesitate to apply to your dream school! There are stories of individuals accepted into their top choices with lower than average SAT scores because their applications shine in other aspects. The admissions process looks at much more than just scores. Good luck with your applications!
