Need-aware colleges are institutions that consider an applicant's financial need in their admissions decisions. This means that the ability of a student or their family to pay tuition might play a part in whether the student gets accepted. This policy is usually used in cases where schools have limited financial aid budgets and cannot fully meet the demonstrated need of all potential students.

On the other hand, there are also need-blind schools, which do not take into account an applicant's financial situation when making admissions decisions.

The impact of being need-aware depends largely on the specifics of your financial situation. If you're a student who requires a lot of financial aid, knowing that a school is need-aware can inform your decisions about where to apply.
