Help with Calculating PSAT Score?

Yo, folks! So, I've taken the PSAT recently. Just got the raw scores and I'm not sure how to convert them into the scaled one. A bit of help would be really appreciated!

Sure, happy to help you out! Here's a bit about how it works:

For calculating the PSAT/NMSQT score, the main thing you need to understand is that it's split into two sections: Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (which combines the Reading Test and Writing & Language Test) and Math (which includes both Math sections).

Each of these sections contains a number of questions, and for each question you answer correctly you are awarded 1 raw point. There’s no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions. So, your raw score is simply the total number of questions you answered correctly in a section.

Next, you take your raw score for each section and convert it into a scaled score. The scaled scores range from 160 to 760 for both sections, giving a maximum total score of 1520. The scaling process is based on the difficulty level of the test and ensures scores are consistent across different test dates. But, the exact conversion can vary from test to test and isn't publicly available.

As the PSAT scores are not a 1-to-1 conversion to the SAT, they are a bit lower. For instance, an 1200 on the PSAT equates to around an 1300 on the SAT.

In terms of receiving your scores, you would generally get your total score and section scores from the College Board directly. But if you only have raw scores, you may want to get in touch with College Board for more information.

Remember, these are just practice and the PSAT is a great way to start understanding how you might prepare for the SAT in the future. Keep up the hard work!
