Hello everyone! I'm seriously considering majoring in Finance if I get into University of Pittsburgh. Anyone here majoring in Finance at Pitt? What's your experience like? Is it tough? Pros and cons?
I'm not a Finance major myself but I can tell you a little bit about the program at Pitt. They found the curriculum challenging but felt that the faculty were really supportive. A consistent comment that I heard was the usage of real-world examples in their lectures and assignments, for instance analyzing real company's financial statements which really brings the theory to life and helps you understand how things operate in the corporate world.
Another thing to note is the wide range of finance electives available at Pitt. This allows you to focus on your areas of interest, such as corporate finance, investment banking, or financial planning. The program does push you, but it's very rewarding in the end. One potential con might be that the core curriculum can be rigorous, so it's important to keep up with your studies.
The University of Pittsburgh places a strong emphasis on experiential learning for Finance majors. There are plenty of opportunities to engage in internships and co-op positions which could be a great advantage when entering the job market after graduation.
