Understanding SAT Test Fees

Hey everyone, I've been planning to take the SAT test soon and I'm a bit confused about the fee structure. Does anyone know the exact cost of registering for the SAT? Plus, are there any additional costs to watch out for or is it a one-time fee?

The standard registration fee for the SAT, as of the 2024-2025 school year, is $68. This fee includes sending your score reports to up to four colleges.

But yes, there are some additional costs that you may need to account for. If you want to send your scores to more than four colleges, you'll need to pay an additional fee of $14 per college. Also, it's worth noting that these four free score reports need to be sent within 10 days of sitting for the test. After this period, the $14 fee per college will apply.

If you're considering taking the optional essay section, bear in mind that this will come with an additional charge. However, it's worth considering whether this is actually beneficial for you since many colleges do not require the optional essay section.

Other fees you might encounter include a waitlist fee ($53) if you miss the last registration deadline but still wish to take the test, and a change fee ($29) if you need to change your test center or test date after registering.

To sum that up, while the basic cost to register and take the SAT is $68, there can definitely be extra costs depending on your personal circumstances. Make sure to double-check everything before registering and budget accordingly! It's always better to avoid surprises.
