Confusion about SAT section timings

Hey, I'm worried about my first SAT and a bit confused about how much time they give for each section. Can anyone elaborate on the timings a bit? Do they give breaks? Are sections timed separately?

Sure, I'd be happy to clarify that for you! This is actually a very common question and it's important to understand the test format well before you sit for the SAT.

As of spring 2024, the SAT is fully digital. The structure of the digital SAT has two main sections: Reading & Writing, and Math. Both these sections consist of two timed modules.

For the Reading & Writing section, you have two 32-minute modules through which you need to complete a total of 54 questions. This gives you approximately 71 seconds per question.

Next up is the Math section, which again, includes two 35-minute modules to complete 44 questions. In this section, you get a bit longer, about 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half. Another important point is that unlike the earlier format, the digital SAT does not have a no-calculator section, meaning you can use a calculator on both math modules.

As for breaks, typically, there will be short breaks between sections, but the exact timing and duration of the breaks often depend on the test center policies and the proctor's discretion.

Finally, keep in mind that the total duration of the digital SAT is 134 minutes, to complete 98 questions. Good luck with your preparation and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions!
