Insight on AICE Classes?

Hello people, was thinking of taking some AICE classes in my last year of high school. Are they worth it? How do colleges typically view them?

Colleges generally view AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) courses favorably, as they are rigorous, internationally recognized qualifications that can prepare you well for college-level study. The difficulty and content of AICE classes are similar to those of AP (Advanced Placement) courses, which are also commonly recognized as challenging coursework by colleges.

The curriculum in your AICE courses will often demand higher order thinking skills, like critical thinking and analysis, which colleges value. Additionally, studies have shown that students who participate in challenging course work, like AICE or similar programs, tend to perform better academically in college. Just as with AP or IB courses, colleges will often look at AICE courses to gauge how well you might handle complex college subjects.

You should also note that AICE classes offer an advantage in that they may provide college credits if you score well on the exams, similar to AP classes. This could potentially save you time and money in college, but it's important to check whether the colleges you're applying to accept these credits.

However, keep in mind that, as with any rigorous program, you should only take on AICE classes if you genuinely feel you can achieve good grades while maintaining a balanced schedule. If not, it might be more beneficial to take classes where you know you can succeed. Ultimately, colleges want to see that you have sought challenge but also maintained strong academic performance.

Remember, your high school counselor might have some insights specific to your school and intended college, so don't forget to get their opinion too. Good luck with your decision!
