Ideal number of classes during senior year?

Alright, I am planning out my senior year schedule and I'm super conflicted. Should I go all out and take the max amount of APs and honors, or is it better to mix in some electives or perhaps a study hall? I want to have a life but also don't want to look like I'm slacking off to colleges. Is there a sweet spot for the number of classes I should aim for?

It's fantastic that you're putting in the effort to carefully plan your senior year schedule! The answer to your question isn't one-size-fits-all, as it really depends on your academic strength, the colleges you're aiming for, and your extracurricular commitments. A balanced schedule that includes challenging classes like APs and honors is generally favorable as it indicates you’re willing to push yourself academically. However, it's equally important not to overload yourself to the point of burnout.

The 'sweet spot' would typically include maintaining the rigor of your previous years while also allowing for some free periods or electives that interest you. This can show colleges that you are well-rounded and have diverse interests. A study hall can also be beneficial if you think you'll need the time during the day to manage your course load and extracurricular activities effectively. Remember, colleges will be looking at your grades during senior year, so it's crucial to not stretch yourself too thin. For an example, if you've consistently taken 3 or more AP classes each year, sticking to that pattern while adding a course that excites you or broadens your interests could be a great choice.

Ultimately, aim for a schedule that is rigorous yet reasonable for you. Keeping up your GPA is important, so balance is key. Good luck with your decision!
