University of Maryland Average SAT scores?

Hey everyone, prospective Terp here! I'm a bit concerned about my SAT score as I plan to apply to the University of Maryland. Could anyone tell me what the average SAT scores are for admitted students? Furthermore, does the score requirement fluctuate between different programs or departments? Thanks in advance!

Hey there,

For the University of Maryland, the latest information available indicates that the middle 50% SAT score range is typically around 1360-1520. This means that 25% of admitted students scored below 1360 and 25% scored above 1520. However, keep in mind this range is for general admission, so fluctuation can occur based on the competitiveness of the program to which you're applying.

In terms of programs or departments, the general trend at most universities is that more technical and competitive programs (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science) might see higher average scores compared to less technical ones. However, the University of Maryland doesn't publicly disclose this breakdown of scores by department. If you're applying to a highly competitive program, it might be a good idea to aim for a score at the higher end of the range, though it's by no means a strict cutoff.

That being said, remember your SAT score is only one piece of the application puzzle. Other factors like your high school grades, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and essays are also important components of your application.

Good luck with your application!
