Picking a major at Villanova - Political Science?

Hey all, I've been accepted to Villanova (yay!) but I'm still unsure about my major. I'm leaning toward political science but I don't know much about it at Nova. Any experiences or opinions? Is it a good program for future law school aspirations?

Congratulations on your acceptance to Villanova! As for your question about the Political Science program, it is a great pathway for students interested in eventually attending law school. The program offers a solid foundation in the theory and practice of politics, both domestically and internationally, and can grant you the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary for a career in law.

One advantage of being a Political Science major at Villanova especially with an interest in law is the Pre-Law Advising program available to all students, regardless of major. This service can provide advice on course selection, law school applications, LSAT prep, and even internship opportunities.

Another aspect to consider involves faculty mentorship. Many Political Science professors at Villanova have a strong background in law, and they can offer academic and career guidance gleaned from their own experiences. You might find these types of relationships integral in your law school journey.

However, remember that attending law school doesn't always necessitate a Political Science degree. Law schools value diversity in their student bodies; hence, they accept applications from students hailing from a variety of academic backgrounds. It's always beneficial to choose a major that truly captures your interest.

Lastly, Villanova's political science department offers several rich opportunities outside of the classroom such as research projects, internships, study abroad programs, and even participation in the Model UN conference. These can further enrich your undergraduate experience and add depth to your law school application.

Before you decide, consider sitting in on a few political science classes if possible, consulting with current students in the program, or even having a discussion with department faculty about their courses and the benefits of the program. This will give you a firsthand glimpse at what you could expect as a Political Science major at Villanova. Best of luck with your decision!
