The value of AP classes in College Admissions?

Hi friends, quick Q - do colleges really favor applicants with a lot of AP classes? I'm juggling whether to take more APs next year and need to figure out if it's truly a game-changer for getting into a good school.

Hello there! It's wonderful that you're thoughtfully planning your upcoming academic year. To address your question, colleges often look favorably upon students who challenge themselves with rigorous courses, such as AP classes. This demonstrates your readiness for the demands of college-level work and your commitment to academic excellence. However, it's also important to maintain a balance. You want to ensure that you're not overwhelming yourself to the point where your grades or mental health suffer. Rather than the quantity of AP classes, admissions committees are more interested in the quality and rigor of your entire course load in the context of what is offered at your particular school. Taking AP classes in subjects you're truly interested in can also be beneficial, as it may allow you to explore these areas in greater depth and can contribute to a more compelling application narrative. It's a good idea to strategize with your school counselor to find a schedule that challenges you without overextending your capabilities. Best wishes as you make your decisions!
