What's the impression of a 36 ACT score for colleges?

Hey folks, I just got my ACT results and scored a solid 36. I'm kinda stoked but also wondering - how beneficial is a perfect score in the eyes of admissions officers? Is a 36 ACT score a major factor that sets one apart? Thoughts?

Firstly, congratulations on your perfect score! A 36 on the ACT is definitely an impressive achievement, and it will undoubtedly strengthen your application. Indeed, you have demonstrated a high level of academic competence, which affirms your readiness for college-level courses. However, it's important to keep in mind that while your ACT score is a key component of your application, it isn't the sole determinant of your admission.

Selective colleges tend to adopt a holistic approach to admissions. While a perfect ACT score can initially flag your application as strong, other aspects of your application such as your GPA, curriculum rigor, extracurricular activities, essays, and teacher recommendation letters are also critical.

In terms of how much a perfect ACT score sets you apart, it is indeed rare, but not unheard of. In top colleges, quite a few applicants will have perfect or near perfect standardized test scores. Therefore, your perfect score does differentiate you from thousands of other applicants, but amongst the pool of highly competitive applicants, the difference might be less significant.

Remember to continue showcasing your strengths beyond your ACT score. Try to present a balanced profile that highlights not only your academic strengths, but also your passions, character, leadership qualities, and how you can contribute to the college and its community. Also, make sure your essays are well-written and provide an insightful view into who you are as a person.

In a nutshell, a 36 ACT score is indeed impressive and valuable, but it's essential also to focus on portraying a well-rounded profile that stands out in other areas as well. Best of luck with your admissions journey!
