How's Financial Aid at Brown University?

Could anyone give some feedback on Brown's financial aid packages? Basically, I'm trying to work out if I can afford to go there. Any personal experiences to share?

Brown University is known for being quite generous with its financial aid. This is largely due to its need-blind admissions policy, where they admit domestic students regardless of their ability to pay, and commit to meet 100% of the demonstrated need for all undergraduate students.

The university's financial aid package generally does not include loans, part of their "Brown Promise" initiative. The financial aid typically comes in the form of grants, which don’t need to be repaid, and work-study, where students work part-time jobs on campus to contribute towards their education costs.

It's important to note that each family's financial situation is treated individually, including factors such as income, assets, family size, and family members in college. Therefore, the aid given can differ greatly from one student to another. To get the most accurate estimate for your family’s situation, you should use Brown's Net Price Calculator (https://npc.collegeboard.org/app/brown). This tool takes into account your family’s financial situation and provides an estimated financial aid package.

Don’t be discouraged if you think your family makes too much to qualify for aid—over 30% of students at Brown receiving aid come from families with incomes over $100,000.

That being said, financial aid policies can change, and they may vary for international students, so I would recommend reaching out to Brown's Financial Aid Office for the most accurate and up-to-date information. Similarly, the net price calculator is just an estimate, so you'll only know the exact amount of aid you'll receive when you apply and get accepted.

If you want tips on how to maximize your chances of acceptance at Brown, so that you can take advantage of their generous financial aid opportunities, I'd check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle the Brown-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-brown-university-and-plme-essays

I hope you find this information helpful, and I wish you the best of luck with your college search process!
