How to prepare for SAT math?

Hey team, I've been practicing for the SAT lately and honestly, the math section is a nightmare for me. Can anyone share some example questions to give me an idea of what to expect or any advice on how to handle this section?

Responding to the math section of the SAT can certainly feel intimidating. Given that it covers a broad range of topics, including algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, and some advanced math, it's crucial to know what you're up against.

One strategy for improving your math skills is to start with the SAT's content breakdown. Understanding which topics appear most frequently can help you prioritize your study time. Nearly 60% of the test is heart of algebra and problem-solving and data analysis, while the remaining 40% or so covers additional topics (geometry, trigonometry, etc.) and passport to advanced math.

Here's a sample question:

If f(1) = 2 and f(3) = 4, what is the value of f(1) + f(3)?

A) 12

B) 7

C) 6

D) 3

In this case, the answer would be C) 6. We know f(1) = 2, and f(3) = 4, so adding those together is 6.

On test day, it's important to stay calm and systematic. Write out your work, so you can catch mistakes and backtrack if necessary. Also, since you can use a calculator on both math modules of the digital SAT, getting comfortable with a calculator and knowing what tasks it can help with is important.

Aside from that, dedicated practice is key. Students often find that working through many practice problems, and really understanding the solutions—even, or especially, to the ones they got wrong—is one of the best ways to get better at SAT math. There are numerous resources available for this, such as Khan Academy and College Board practice tests. Scheduled practice sessions and consistent effort will typically yield noticeable improvements over time. Good luck with your preparation!
