What are the requirements for UCSB?

Hi, UCSB is one of my top choices and I'm trying to make sure I fit the bill. Does anyone know what the requirements are to get into UCSB?

Applying to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) involves fulfilling several criteria. Here are the requirements:

1. Academic Performance: UCSB, like all UCs, requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for California residents and 3.4 for out-of-state residents. However, being competitive often entails a higher GPA.

2. Required Courses: UCSB requires you to complete certain courses in high school often referred to as 'a-g' requirements. These include history, English, math, laboratory science, language other than English, visual and performing arts, and college preparatory electives.

3. Test Scores: For the 2024-2025 academic year, UCSB along with other UC campuses is test-blind, meaning SAT and ACT scores are not part of their admissions evaluation.

4. Personal Insight Questions: The UC application asks for responses to 4 out of 8 Personal Insight Questions. There's no prescribed length for the responses, but the UC system recommends aiming for around 350 words each. Writing these essays well plays an integral part in presenting a full picture of your experiences, interests, and aspirations.

5. Extracurricular Activities: UCSB, as are all UCs, is interested in your extracurricular activities. They are looking for dedication to a few interests rather than spreading yourself thin in a multitude of activities.

6. Honors and Awards: If applicable, be sure to include any honors or awards you have received throughout high school.

It's important to also remember that admissions to UCSB, like all universities, aren't solely determined by these hard factors. The admissions committee takes into consideration your entire application, so make sure to highlight your strengths, uniqueness, and eagerness to contribute to the UCSB community.
