UM's SAT Scores?

Is there anyone who could give me some intel about SAT scores UM is looking for? What's considered good enough and what's a score that will really make them sit up and take notice?

In the realm of competitive college admissions, standardized testing is often a key metric that colleges use to distinguish between applicants. However, it's important to remember that test scores are just one piece of a multi-dimensional puzzle.

The University of Miami (UM), a school known for its rigorous academics and diverse student body, does look at SAT scores as part of its holistic admissions process. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the middle 50% SAT range for admitted students was between 1340-1450, which means 25% of admitted students scored below 1340 and 25% scored above 1450. As a benchmark, if your SAT score is within this range, you would be considered competitive in terms of standardized testing.

However, if you're looking to "really make them sit up and take notice," a score significantly above the 75th percentile (which was 1450 for UM in the last admission cycle) would make a stronger impression. However, do remember that a high score alone won't guarantee admission. Colleges are increasingly leaning toward a holistic review of applications, which means academics, extracurricular activities, personal essays, and recommendations are all critical components of your application.

It's important to do your best on the SAT, but equally crucial to focus on other aspects of your application, such as the essay, where you'll get the chance to highlight your individual strengths, experiences, and perspective. This multifaceted approach will present you as a 'complete package,' significantly helping in making a compelling case for your acceptance.
