Hey everyone! I've been trying to set a target SAT score for myself but I'm kinda lost on one thing - what's the absolute highest score you can get on the SAT? Do sections contribute differently towards your total score? Appreciate all the input I can get. Cheers!
The highest total score you can achieve on the SAT is 1600. This covers two sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) and Math. Each of these sections is scored between 200 and 800, and their scores are combined to get your total. So if you achieve an 800 in both sections, you get the perfect score of 1600.
There isn't a difference in how each section contributes to your total score. Much like how your grades in Math and English carry the same weight towards your GPA, both the ERW and Math sections contribute equally towards your total SAT score. If you're trying to set a goal for yourself, make sure to focus on both sections. Some students find they naturally perform better in one section, so they might spend more time studying for their weaker area.
Keep in mind that the test does not penalize for wrong answers, so it's in your best interest to answer all the questions, even if you need to guess on a few. Good luck with your studying!
