Hello everybody, I've been doing a little bit of college research and Knoxville came up. What kind of GPA should I be aiming for if I want to get into UTK? I'm working hard but just want to know how much I'll need to push.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) admissions process takes a holistic view of students, meaning they consider factors beyond GPA, like your courses, your SAT/ACT scores if you submit them, extracurricular activities, and essays. However, GPA does play an important role.
Generally speaking, the average high school GPA of admitted students tends to hover around a 4.0 (weighted), according to recent data. But it's important to know this is just the average, so students can get accepted with a lower GPA and rejected with a higher GPA.
Try to strive for the highest GPA you can, but also pay attention to your course load. It can be beneficial to challenge yourself with rigorous coursework like Honors classes or AP courses where available, as admission officers at UTK will look at course rigor in addition to GPA. Lastly, keep in mind balancing this with your extracurriculars and personal life, since burnout won't benefit your application. Good luck with your studies!
