For those who've transferred, what's the transition to a new college like?

Hey, friends—considering transferring colleges in the future and feeling a tad worried. Could anyone who's transferred share their experience? How did you adapt to the new environment, and how was the process different from your first college application experience?

Transferring can certainly be an anxious time, but many students find it to be a positive change overall. You will have to be very organized with the different requirements and deadlines for transferring—and it's sometimes quite a bit more paperwork than the first round of applications!

Adapting to the new environment may take a little time, but transfer orientations can be incredibly helpful. These seek to connect transfer students with other transfer students going through the same transition. To help make the process feel less stressful, also consider joining clubs related to your interests, which is a great way to meet people and feel part of the community. Importantly, try to stay in campus housing if possible, as it simplifies making initial connections in the school's community.

Keep in mind every school’s transfer process is unique; some may require an interview or may have specific prerequisites for your major. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck in your transferring journey!
