Climbing the SAT Mountain: What's Considered a High Score?

Hey folks, I've been studying my brains out for the SAT and I'm kind of freaking out about what a 'good' score is. I know it varies by college, but what's generally considered a high SAT score? How did you guys prepare for it?

In the context of standardized testing, the definition of a "high" score can be relative, but for the SAT, many would consider a score of 1400 or above out of 1600 to be towards the higher end. Specifically, a score of 1500+ would be in the top 5% of all test takers, which could be another way of defining it as "high".

For the more selective colleges, a score around 1500 or higher is typically what they're expecting to see among their applicant pool. However, a lower score doesn't necessarily disqualify you, especially if the rest of your application is strong.

In terms of preparation, it's all about consistent practice and understanding the format of the test. The CollegeBoard's practice tests are a good start, they give you a sense of the structure of the test and the types of questions you'll be asked.

Also, if you find certain areas more challenging than others, it could be worthwhile to spend more time focusing on those areas. For verbal, try expanding your vocabulary and working on comprehension strategies. For math, brushing up on your algebra and geometry skills can be very helpful.

Remember to practice under timed conditions as well. Taking timed practice tests can make the actual test day less daunting.

Lastly, keep in mind that a "good" SAT score is just one part of your application and colleges take into consideration your grades, extracurriculars, essays, and other factors when making their decisions. Good luck with your studies - you can do it!
