Does UMD consider a 3 on an AP exam as passing for credit?

Hey everyone, I'm aiming for UMD and I just got my AP scores back. I managed to score a 3 on one of my exams. Solid but not stellar, I know. How does UMD look at this score? Do they generally accept a 3 for college credit, or should I be aiming for 4s and 5s exclusively? Need to figure out if I should retake or focus on upcoming exams.

UMD—like many universities—has specific policies on AP exam scores and the granting of credit. A score of 3 on some AP exams can indeed earn you credit at the University of Maryland, although for certain subjects, a higher score may be required to gain that credit. These policies can change, so it's always best to consult UMD's Undergraduate Catalog or the AP credit transfer page on their website for the most current information.

For example, a 3 on the AP English Language and Composition exam may earn you credit, but for AP Chemistry, you might need a 4 or 5. If you're considering a retake, it would likely be more strategic to focus on upcoming exams and aim to score 4s or 5s on those, especially in subjects directly related to your intended major or college requirements.
