Rundown on Berkeley's average GPA

Hi, I've been aiming to apply to Berkeley for a while now. I know it's super competitive and all, but I was wondering about their average GPA. What kind of GPA are they looking for and do they give any weight to the difficulty of your courses?

The University of California, Berkeley, is indeed highly competitive. On average, admitted students have a GPA within the following ranges:

Unweighted GPA middle 50%: 3.89-4.00

Weighted GPA middle 50%: 4.28-4.62

The merit of your coursework makes a significant difference too, not just your raw GPA. For instance, strong performances in AP or IB courses will reflect well on your application since these are seen as more challenging. Similarly, dual enrollment or college courses taken during high school are viewed positively.

This doesn't mean you should overload on difficult classes at the expense of your psychological well-being or extracurricular involvement, but it does show that Berkeley is interested in students who excel academically and are willing to challenge themselves.

Remember, your GPA is a crucial part of your application, but it's not the only factor. UC Berkeley, like many institutions, employs a comprehensive review process, evaluating your application based on your essays, extracurricular activities, and other elements too. So, aim for a high GPA, but don't forsake developing a well-rounded application in the process.
