AP Exam durations - how long are they really?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to plan out my study schedule and mental prep, and I can't seem to find consistent info. Could someone who's taken AP exams recently let me know how long the AP Calc, AP Chinese, AP English Lit, AP Stats, and AP World History exams are? Specifically for 2024 if possible. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I totally understand wanting to get a clear picture of what to expect for your AP exams – it’s great that you’re planning ahead. From recent experience, here's the rundown: AP Calculus (both AB and BC) should have a total duration of about 3 hours and 15 minutes, including a 1-hour and 45-minute multiple-choice section and a 1-hour and 30-minute free-response section. The AP Chinese and AP English Literature exams also clock in at around the same total time, give or take some minutes for administrative procedures. AP Statistics is similar; you’re looking at a 3-hour exam with two sections – multiple choice and free response, each lasting about 1 hour and 30 minutes. As for AP World History, it's structured with a 3-hour and 15-minute total exam time, which includes a 55-minute multiple-choice section, a 40-minute short answer section, a 1-hour document-based question, and a 40-minute long essay question.

Just remember that these times include a brief period for instructions and getting set up, so the actual testing time is a bit less. Also, be sure to arrive early, as you’ll need some extra time beforehand to get settled. Best of luck with your studying and the exams!
