Breaking Down Michigan State University SAT Requirements

What are the SAT requirements for Michigan State University? I mean, is there a specific score range that they usually accept? Feels like there’s a lot riding on this, so any information would be super helpful.

Michigan State University considers the SAT scores as one part of its holistic admissions process. For the class that entered in Fall 2023, the middle 50% SAT score range was between 1100 and 1300. This means that 50% of admitted students scored within this range, 25% of students scored above this range, and 25% scored below.

However, it's important to note that these are not cut-off values. Admission at Michigan State is not solely determined by test scores. In fact, many other factors are taken into consideration, such as your GPA, the rigor of your high school curriculum, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities, application essays, among others.

Lastly, as of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the option to submit standardized test scores is entirely up to the applicant due to MSU's test-optional policy. This gives students the freedom to present their application in a way that best suits them. That said, if you feel your SAT score is a strong aspect of your application and reflects your academic capabilities well, it may still be beneficial to submit it.

Remember, the SAT is just one piece of the puzzle and while it can be a significant part of your application, it does not define your eligibility for admission. Don't put undue stress on this one part of your application; instead, focus on making all aspects of your application as strong as they can be.
