Feeling lost about PSAT/NMSQT

Hey all, feeling a bit lost here. I know we've had the PSAT/NMSQT mentioned at school, but quite honestly, I wasn't really paying attention. Can anyone help me understand what it is and how it's useful?

No worries at all! The PSAT/NMSQT, which stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, is a standardized test designed by the College Board to measure readiness for the SAT, a test frequently utilized by colleges during the admissions process.

By taking the PSAT/NMSQT, you can understand your own ability level and identify areas of strength and weakness. This allows you to focus your SAT preparation on targeted areas. Moreover, the score you receive on the PSAT/NMSQT can provide insight into how you might perform on the SAT.

However, the PSAT/NMSQT is more than just a practice tool. As the name suggests, it is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, a competitive scholarship program for high school students. Scoring highly can open the doors to scholarship opportunities, which can be a valuable financial aid resource when you're applying to colleges.

Remember, the PSAT/NMSQT is typically taken in October of your junior year, so plan accordingly. Also, starting from Fall 2023, the PSAT/NMSQT has transitioned to a digital format and you can preview this version with the Bluebook™ app.
