Acceptance rate of Pittsburgh University?

So, Pittsburgh University is one of my top schools and I just wanted to know how tough is it to get in there. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is and what they generally look for in applicants?

The University of Pittsburgh, oftentimes referred to as Pitt, is a fairly competitive school with an acceptance rate that typically hovers around 49%. However, keep in mind that acceptance rates can fluctuate year to year, depending on the applicant pool.

In terms of what Pitt generally looks for in applicants, your academic performance is a key factor. They'll review your high school transcript for competitive course work, grade trends, and overall rigor of your high school curriculum. Your GPA and standardized tests, like the SAT or ACT, are also important components of your application. However, it's worth noting that Pitt adopted a test-optional policy starting from the 2020-2021 application cycle and it has been extended to the 2024-2025 cycle. The school will evaluate your application holistically, taking into account other factors such as personal essays, letters of recommendation (if submitted), and your involvement in extracurricular activities.

Among extracurriculars, they value leadership roles and long-term commitment to activities. Activities in Tiers 1-3 of the 4 Tiers of Extracurriculars will be most impressive. Therefore, keep in mind that being a well-rounded applicant with a strong academic record, passionate involvement in a few extracurriculars, with potentially leadership in those, likely strengthens your application.

Don’t forget that individual colleges within Pitt may have more competitive admissions. For example, Swanson School of Engineering or the School of Nursing may have lower acceptance rates than the overall university rate I mentioned.

Keep in mind these are general statements and every applicant's case is unique. Your individual circumstances, strengths, and experiences can also greatly influence your chances.
