Sections on the SAT

What's up everyone, I've started preparing for the SAT and was wondering about the different sections on it. What should I expect and how best should I prep for each?

Sure thing! Since spring 2024, the SAT has switched to a fully digital format, which includes Reading and Writing, and Math. Here's what you can expect:

1. Reading and Writing: This consists of two 32-minute modules, totaling 64 minutes, in which you will answer 54 questions. This gives you approximately 71 seconds to answer each question.

2. Math: This consists of two 35-minute sections, totaling 70 minutes, in which you should answer 44 questions. You will have approximately 96 seconds, or a little over a minute and a half, per question. Unlike the older version of the SAT, you can use a calculator for all the math questions now.

Now let's dive into the preparation part:

- Reading and Writing Prep: The key here is understanding, analysis, and vocabulary. Practice reading long texts and articles as this will help you understand and interpret information faster. Key areas to focus on are central ideas and themes, argument structure, interrelation of ideas, and figuring out the meaning of words in context.

- Math Prep: The focus of this module will be on algebra, problem-solving and data analysis, advanced math, and additional topics (geometry, trigonometry, and complex numbers). You might want to brush up on these topics and practice problem-solving.

In terms of studies, you should consider using the Bluebook™ app, which lets you preview the digital SAT and take a full-length practice test. Try timing yourself during these practice tests to mimic the exam environment. Additionally, remember to review your errors so you understand where you need to focus your future preparation.

Remember, consistency is crucial. Regular practice will help you become familiar with the test structure and improve speed and accuracy. Best of luck with your preparation!
