ACT Requirements for UCLA

Hey guys! I'm working on my UCLA application and was wondering about their ACT requirements. What's the typical range for accepted students? Do they place a lot of emphasis on it? Thanks!

For the 2024-2025 application cycle, UCLA, along with all the other UC schools, has adopted a test-blind admissions process, which means these schools will not consider your ACT (or SAT) scores even if you choose to submit them.

When looking at applying to UCLA or any other UC system school, now more than ever, it's most important to focus on your high school grades, the rigor of your coursework, and your extracurricular activities. Consider also your personal essays, as these have the potential to provide admissions officers with a sense of you as a person and what you would bring to the campus community.

Although standardized test scores are not being considered, other aspects of your application such as your GPA, the difficulty of your courses, and your extracurricular involvement will be even more important. Therefore, your academic performance and extracurricular involvement should reflect the typical strengths of a UCLA applicant.

For example, a strong GPA will be important - the middle 50% GPA range for UCLA is typically around 4.37-4.74 for weighted GPAs, on a 5.0 scale. The most competitive applicants take rigorous high school course schedules, including honors, APs or IB classes, and maintain high GPAs. It's also crucial to be actively involved outside of the classroom. Successful UCLA applicants typically have a variety of extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership, commitment, and passion within their area of interest.

In summary, for this cycle and onwards, you don’t need to worry about your ACT score when applying to UCLA. Instead, focus on maintaining your grades and being engaged in your extracurriculars. Lastly, spend time crafting your personal insight essays, as these will help distinguish you as a unique candidate.
