Hey all, I'm a junior and Umich has been my dream school since like, forever. I'm curious about their average admitted GPA. Does anyone know what GPA they look for? Just trying to gauge my chances and it'll be really helpful.
The University of Michigan (UMich) is a fairly selective institution, and it typically sees high GPAs in its admitted student pool. As per the most recent data available, the middle 50% of admitted students at UMich had a high school GPA between around 3.8 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. That means 25% of admitted students had a GPA above 4.0 (possibly due to weighted AP or IB classes), and 25% had a GPA below 3.8.
To keep in mind though, UMich will look at more than just your grades. Course rigor is also an important consideration. So, even if your GPA is slightly below the middle 50% range, strong performances in challenging courses (like AP or IB classes) could still position you as a competitive applicant. At the same time, extracurricular involvement, letters of recommendation, and personal essays are crucial components of your application.
Remember that these statistics provide a general picture of the incoming class and not necessarily the "required" GPA for admission. Always ensure to present your best self in all components of the application beyond just the GPA. Best of luck with your application to UMich!
